6th World GAMES |
■Reports: |
Japan is strong! From the preliminaries, 3 perfect
wins from 7 total Shining with gold medals The focus of the Games was how the
7th World GTBL Championship (WGC) 3rd place Korea(Team Pusan) , USA (Team Diego),
Chinese Taipei (with their newly formed team from many locations) and the local
Akita representative team (Team Akita Smile) as well as the 15th and 16th All
Japan Champions, Japan (Team Kuroda-sho) could face the overwhelmingly strong
China (Team Fujian) Champions of 3rd Asia GTBL Championships 2000 (AGC). The spectator's
attention was focused on this point. In the preliminaries, in order to probe the
opponent's strength, each team got off to a quiet start. But as the games progressed,
things started to happen. In the Akita vs. China game, China passed up the 1st
gate. From the 2nd turn, they used their slide tactic. After the middle stage
of the game China continuously did touch-miss. With this, No 2 and No 10 white
balls were lined up behind Gate 2. Here No 7 red which had passed through Gate
2 played a Double-Touch. With this Akita rebounded to 13-13. It was a tough win
on even points for China. Although China picked up the victory, it was obvious
from Akita's efforts that there was a difference from the 3rd AGC. In the game
against Korea, the team suffered under Korea's attack and lost 7-19. In the third
match against Japan, in Japan's 4th corner in front of Gate 3 by the 4th line,
the team could not cope with the Double-Touch tactic and lost 10-16. In the fourth
game against USA, the team barely won on content in an 11-11 result. In the fifth
match against Chinese Taipei, Chinese Taipei went straight through to the Gate
2 on a strong offensive. The team lost bitterly at 10-15. On the other hand, Japan
showed its advantage the spectators had expected. It won all 5 games with 2 perfect
wins and entered the final tournament in 1st place. With the preliminaries over,
Japan showed its overwhelming strength. Chinese Taipei played noticeably aggressive
games, especially their No 1 and No 4 stroker. Although 3rd in the preliminaries,
Korea lost to America. It had a great win over China. Their No 5 stroker and captain
held the team together wonderfully and were very impressive. The final Japan vs.
Chinese Taipei, Japan gets the gold Medal by the perfect game by using many Double-Touch
tactics. It must be said that this was a tournament where Japans power shone
above others. "Let's enjoy ourselves. That's how we wanted to play. So,
we didn't feel any stress at all. Everyone was in good form and we played as usual.
We thought we would win. This was Japan's Captain's comment after winning the
tournament. What awesome, cool, young power! |
