WGU has visited Hanoi and 3 other places in Soc Son (near Hanoi) in Vietnam to see how gateball is promoted/played in Vietnam.

This visit became the second time to Vietnam, the first time in 2000 which was in Ho Chi Minh.
During our visit, everywhere we go the gateball players welcomed us very friendly.
Everyone were very energetic to hear the stories that we have told them about the situation of gateball around the world.

Gateball was introduced in Hanoi in 1992.
It is said to be that the then Hanoi Sports Director has learned from China and started to keep all the elderly healthy.
He invited 2 gateball coaches from Guangxi China, and had lectures to Hanoi's sports leaders for a month.
After all the lecture finished, the sports leaders have started coaching people in different areas, and thanks to them now gateball is played in 7 district in Hanoi, and 5 province around Hanoi.

As we have visited the local gateball practice, we have noticed that many things have been influenced by China:
such they have translated the Chinese rule book when they started into Vietnamese, and the stance for sparking is influenced by Chinese players too.
The equipment is from China as well, and they also create their own sticks from wood too.

In Hanoi, they have a gateball tournament every twice a year, which is in October and March.

We would like to conclude our report by saying that it was nice to meet many players enjoying playing gateball (it seems that they focus more on the recreation part than the competition part)
and looking for the near future to have gateball exchange with other countries players as well.
