“Gateball Competition on the 6th TAFISA 2016”

Indonesian Teams won in both Five-a-side and Doubles!

“Gateball Competition on the 6th TAFISA 2016 Gateball Tournament” took place in Jakarta, Indonesia from October 7 to 10, 2016.

The tournament was held as a part of international sports festival by TAFISA (“The Association For International Sport for All”). TAFISA is an international sport organization, founded to improve the quality of life of all people over the world through promoting not only the health and physical strength development but also the idea of Sports for All.

Teams from four countries, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand played the games in which 36 teams played in the classical five-a-side and 26 teams did in the doubles.

In eight courts, three or four teams, in both five-a-side and doubles, competed in the league. Then top two teams in each court advanced to the final tournament. The tournament was carried out based on the “Round Robin Tournament” in the first round and continued by “Single Elimination Tournament” for the classical five-a-side, and by “Double Elimination Tournament” four doubles.

As a result, the winners in both the classical five-a-side and the doubles tournaments were the Indonesian teams. A team from Thailand played well and won the fourth place in the doubles tournament.

The Indonesian Gateball Association held its first International Referee Qualification Examination in September this year.  The newly appointed international gateball referees performed marvelously in the games.

During the tournament, children at a near-by elementary school came to watch the games, showing how gateball is popular in Indonesia.
