1st youth tournament and instructors
course to promote GB among all generations in progress
In December 2001, the first international tournament was held. Last year also
welcomed the 10th anniversary of the of the founding of Hong Kong,Chaina Gateball
Association. Recently efforts are being made to promote GB among young and middle
aged groups. One such program was the 1st Youths Tournament held in December last
year. Players between 12 and 35 years old were invited, with 8 teams participating.
This tournament will continue to take place hereafter, and in the near future
it is planned to divide the tournament into junior and youths classes.
Also, a church in the same building as the organizations office will be used for
courses for basic level instructors. In the courses, people between 18 and 70
years old learn the theory of GB. If they pass the examination given after the
course, they then go to various districts to give instruction to beginners.
At present there are 19 locations where GB can be played, including permanent
courts. Another 10 courts are planned to be completed by 2006. Among these the
construction of 6 locations has already begun.
With this new movement, you can hear passersby saying to those playing, "GB,
GB!". This is an indication that GB is gradually taking root in Kong Hong.
