Gatebal born in Japan with a suggestion of the UK and French traditional game "Croquet" has landed on the UK at last.
When some Japanese GB players once visited the UK, they did GB demonstration to local Croquet players.
Moreover, Colin Fletcher, croquet player living in Yorkshire was personally interested in the gateball and visited Japan Gateball Union in April 2001.
We recently had good news that the gateball club was established and the activity started in London.
It is an Australian GB player Mr. Alex Park that introduced GB to English person.
He is a gateball player who belongs to the Canberra team in Australia, and he had an experience to have participated in the 9th world Gateball Championships held in South Korea 2006.
He went to study to Goodenough College in London since last autumn.
He was hoping to continue practice of gateball during stay in London. And he decided to establish GB club with the schoolmate at his College.
Last month he sent report and photos about his activity to Japan Gateball Union.
JGU decided to donate gateball tools to this club immediately, and to support the activity in the future strongly.
In the future there is possibility that the European Gateball Union will be established in cooperation with the gateball club of Germany that has already been established.

Dean of Students, Dr Gillian Wallace, said that it wasexciting to see gateball played at the College. “Thespirit of Goodenough College is to embrace newideas, so what a wonderful way to see this literally inaction, through the introduction of a new, challengingbut inclusive sport to the UK”.
Members of the Goodenough Gateball Club arehoping to encourage some local schools, croquetclubs and universities to take up the sport.“Ultimately it would be great if we could organise anEnglish team to play at the World GateballChampionships in 2010” said Goodenough studentAlex Park.
Having only played their first game, the WorldChampionships are a long way off for theGoodenough club. But given their enthusiasm, theyare off to a good start. |
